What I liked most about playing Pokemon Go was that I logged nearly 5,000 steps while playing. Yes, people do get a substantial amount of exercise while playing. But, people are still glued to their phones, obsessively staring at their telephone display looking for the next Pokemon.

For the previous week or so, all I've seen on social media websites are people posting about playing Pokemon Go. As the enthusiastic writer, I am, I wanted to write an article about it. But of course, that would mean I'd need to play. I did not need to play this Pokemon game. I 've never once in my life had the want to play anything that has to do with Pokemon. For the sake of this article, however, I tossed all of those thoughts away and walked around for an hour and a half trying to figure out this Pokemon craze.

The Pokemon card game is very popular with kids. You may not think that that has anything whatsoever to do with robots, but if you let your sense go a little 'fuzzy' I believe we can find robotic notions in all life- that in fact machines were meant to replace things people do and robot 'humanizes' the machine even more because of broader parameters. Similarly, we get the stats on a Pokemon, and it's rather like a robot. But that's not so in the imagination. In the imagination it's something alive. And if we do something to it like make it glossy (glistening daikon cards), it becomes even more valuable and living.

It simply does not make lots of sense to me how intense people got when I played. It is almost like the hundreds of individuals in downtown Springfield, Missouri, had seen a tweet saying, "There're a thousand dollars somewhere downtown, go find it!" or "Beyonce is in downtown Springfield. Go locate her!" Because all of a sudden, I Had see a group of four teenaged boys running down the street, phones in hand. Obviously, no. Those lads were not after cash or Beyonce. They weren't after anything real, anything with a real benefit or outcome, for that matter.

If the dream behind a game is powerful enough, it can bring about spinoffs. Conversely, something that is popular like Ultraman can lead to a game. But games generally remain games and playthings stay toys. Pokemon has seen quite good spinoff (though it's not taking the world by storm) because of its intriguing concept. This is where the robot is left behind, and the human imagination starts to reach out and explore.

I began by walking around downtown Springfield, Missouri, with a buddy. My friend is really into Pokemon Go. He has spent the last week walking around parks and sites through the city attempting to catch strange virtual creatures. He tried to teach me how.

The imagination is a funny thing. Geeks design and fight their 'bots' with an extremely strong ego: they designed the robot; they're comparing their skill against their competitor's. When a premise, or story, is place into a game that all changes. Pokemon are robots to be sure, but the user did not design them- computer game geeks did. So it becomes a fantasy world at which item is really to obtain the best Pokemon that one can use it 'feature' to the best of one's ability. When losing, one can almost believe that the Pokemon let him down, wasn't powerful enough, or whatever. He may blame himself partly, but not totally.

Pokemon enthusiasts throughout the world may shun me, but my judgment is that I still don't understand the craze. I do not comprehend how people don't get bored with it after a few minutes and how they get so enthusiastic about comical-looking characters on an app. I don't comprehend why anyone would spend time on something silly like Pokemon Go. That being said, it's not my place to tell the world to stop doing what they love. If you need to play, then play. But I, for one, will not.

All I taken in the hour and a half of playing is that you walk around aimlessly as your avatar on the Pokemon Go app walks to PokeStops, where you could possibly catch a Pokemon. If a Pokemon appears, you must throw a virtual Poke Ball at it to capture it. Then you certainly walk and walk and walk some more to catch more Pokemon. Seemingly, you occasionally can snitch Pokemon from others and have conflicts with other users also. That component is over my head.

Not many are aware of this maybe (or perhaps you are!) but practically every computer game we play is an application of robotic software technology. That is, the icons you see, and maneuver are application configurations with set parameters. It cannot go beyond those parameters just because that's the constraint of its programming. Very often, in fact, 'updating' does not include adding a brand new function to an existing thing, but rather simply replacing it in its entirety and downloading its memory from the game's database.

Unlike other Pokémon games, catching does not come down to strategically squaring off one Pokémon against another. That's due to the fact that Pokémon fights are finger swipe-versus-monster as you swipe a Poké Ball toward a Pokémon.
