Capture a Pikachu: Like the original games, when you begin playing Pokemon Go, you can select one of three Pokemon as your first company: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. But there is a concealed fourth choice, also: Pikachu. To get a Pikachu, you simply need just a little patience. You have to disregard the first three Pokemon presented to you by Professor Willow and just walk away. The three Pokemon will follow you around for a bit then disappear before reappearing. Do this four times, and a Pikachu will eventually show up. Then you capture it. Catching Pikachu does not seem to have a strategic advantage since you'll likely encounter more powerful ones later on, but why miss an opportunity to hang out from the outset?

There are tons of articles out there already about gameplay and how the AR functions, etc., etc. And there are probably a lot of local shops shooting queries up the chain about what the heck all these folks are doing standing in their parking lot looking at their phones. But what does Pokemon Go mean for retailers?

I've got two angles: The immediate issue of whether all these people will mean anything to them, and the larger issue of what makes Pokemon Go so compelling, and what retailers can learn from that for their customer involvement.

A very useful item for leveling up is the Lucky Egg. Using an egg sets off a 30-minute timer, during which you will gain double experience points. Make sure you use this wisely by consulting the table above to see which high-XP endeavors you'll be able to complete in that 30-minute window. You might time a Lucky Egg with several Pokemon developments, or alongside a bait that sends lots of Pokemon your way, to get the most bang for your buck.

Pokemon Go is a bit different from earlier games in the series because the Pokemon trainer---the small character you make at the beginning of the game---gains experience points to increase his or her amount. In the first games, each Pokemon has its experience points and amount, but not so in Go.

Throw a curve ball: Curveballs aren't only fashionable, they also increase a player's ability points if the technique results in a capture. To begin a curve ball, move your finger in small circles on the display while touching the ball and then throw it. It is still uncertain if curveballs increase the odds of getting a Pokemon, though they do give you an XP bonus. Some players say that is true, while some report it is harder.

The way to throw a Pokball: Unlike the original games, you don't battle outrageous Pokemon in Go. Instead, you leap straight to catching them, which simply means flicking a Pokball on your telephone screen at a Pokemon. Toss it too close or too far, and the Pokball won't do anything. You have to get it just right by really reaching the Pokemon. A green ring means the Pokemon is easy to catch, while a red one means it's tougher to catch. Your chances are improved, notably for more difficult-to-catch Pokemon, if the ring is smaller when you release the Pokball.

And then, as we were walking out of the park, we were met by a man, telephone out, who saw our phones and instantly demanded to know if we were Red Team or Blue Team (the local gym is currently owned by Red Team). We replied Red, to which he nodded his head. "Good." I was relieved -- for a second the whole AR thing seemed like it might've headed in a too-real way if we'd replied the incorrect shade.

Find nearby Pokemon: To see what Pokemon are lurking nearby, examine the bottom-right corner of your display. The fewer footprints there are, the closer the Pokemon is. The Pokemon in this menu is, in addition, sorted by the space. The one on the top-left is closest to you while the one on the bottom-right is farthest.

I capped off my in-depth encounter with a trip to the local mall (Park Meadows in Lonetree, CO), where I think about a third of the foot traffic in that mall on a sleepy Monday day was Pokemon Go traffic. Yeah, third. And hey! I'm a level 6 now!

Well, there may not be any guide to real life, but here is a guide to Pokemon Go. It'll help get you from beginner to advanced Pokemon trainer, level up, and catch them all.

One Blessed Egg is granted at level 9, and others at succeeding levels. Blessed Eggs may also be purchased at the store with PokeCoins.

The game is deceptively complicated. At first, it seems like all you do is roam around, catching random imitation creatures. But unlike many mobile games, Pokemon Go leaves most of its complexity unexplained. Much like in life itself, you are dropped into the world you have to master at exactly the same time as you determine how it works.

Unlike other Pokémon games, catching doesn't come down to strategically squaring off one Pokémon against another. That's because Pokémon battles are finger swipe-versus-monster as you swipe a Poké Ball towards a Pokémon. We're delighted to share our suggestions with you on how to capture and find Pokémon for your growing Pokémon Go collection.
